Mr Ankomah Sey, a former Assemblyman and the spokesperson made the appeal when he addressed a news conference organised by the aggrieved ex-members at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.

 He said the assembly at its general meeting in 2015 approved the payment of GHC1,500.00 to each of 43 former assembly members, but initial payment of GHC1,000.00 each was made to them leaving a balance of GHC 500.00 each, which the management of the Assembly promised to pay later.

Mr Sey said it came as a surprise to them that 32 out of the 43 ex-members had been paid their balance of the GHC 500.00 secretly by the management of the Assembly leaving out 11 of them, describing the action as outrageous to be denied their legitimate ex-gratia award.

He said when the information got to them; they went to the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Ishmael Nana Ogyefo and demanded their part of the balance of the GHC500.00 each, but to no avail.

The spokesperson said they were baffled when the Municipal Coordinating Director told them that the budget which was approved had been exhausted and that efforts would be made to pay their arrears.

Mr Sey said their four-year term of office came to an end in 2015 and new members were elected and up-to-date no effort had been made by the management for the payment of the arrears of the ex-gratia and that they perceived it was a deliberate attempt to cheat them.

He said it would be a great joy for them if the Sector Minister intervened to see to it that their balance of the GHC500.00 was paid to motivate others to devote their time and energy to serve in the work of the district assembly.
