Delegates to the governing New Patriotic Party’ (NPP) Upper East Regional conference to elect new officers have been asked to ignore rumours about the President’s preferred candidates.
Alhaji Abdallah Otito Achuliwor, who is in the regional chairman race, said that was pure political mischief. It is not true that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown his weight behind any of the contestants.
Alhaji Achuliwor, addressing a press conference in Bolgatanga, said “I know the President - he is a politician, who does not discriminate because he knows what numbers mean in politics”. He discredited the so called “favourite candidates list” doing the rounds in the region, labelling it as fictitious.
He expressed disgust at the attempt by what he said was some individuals in the party to micro-manage things from Accra. That was completely unacceptable and unhelpful to its unity and growth. Alhaj Achuliwor called for the members and supporters to remain steadfast and unite their effort to make the NPP strong in the Upper East.
He was upbeat about its chances of winning more parliamentary seats in the region and cautioned everybody from doing anything likely create needless tension and fuel apathy among its supporters. He pledged to work with a lot of energy to make the party more vibrant and attractive to voters, if elected.
Alhaji Achuliwor said he would strengthen the party’s structures, rebrand and increase its visibility.
