Mr. Kojo Asemanyi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa East has appealed to his constituents to be united in order to bring peace, progress and development to the area.
Mr. Asemanyi made the appeal at a forum to commemorate the creation of a District at Gomoa Potsin in the Central Region. He commended President Akufo-Addo led government for assenting into law and committing state resources towards the creation of the Gomoa East District.
The MP explained that in the wake of the newly created district, the Assembly with the mandate of making laws as well as executing and coordinating development projects would have a huge responsibility to reduce poverty in the area.
One key responsibility, he said, would be the prudent utilisation of the District Assembly Common Fund to bring about value for money. He, therefore, urged the Assembly, Civil Society Organisations, the Traditional Rulers, PWDs and the entire people in the district to ensure strict adherence to the application of funds.
“Development can only take place within the framework of collective effort including vigilance and respect of Law, and we should expect strict compliance to procurement laws and take steps to curb wastage, financial malfeasance and irregularities as recorded yearly by the Auditor General.”
The MP indicated that the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) was more likely to rise because of the prudent government policies and the efficiency that the new district administration would bring.
In this regard, the assembly should bring about development by building its capacity to generate a larger portion of total resources so that their IGF could significantly support the District Assembly Common Fund, he said. Mr. Asemanyi urged members to eschew indiscipline and corruption, adding, the assembly should be willing to learn from people and adapt to international best practices of policy implementation.
He thanked the Chiefs, elders and people of the area who have diversely expressed their support for government in realising this objective.
