The Convener of Diplomatic Platform, an independent National Democratic Congress (NDC) pressure group has reiterated its decision not to come out openly and support any candidate for the party’s flagbearer.
Rather, it will wait for the outcome of the presidential primary and rally behind the winner to wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2020.
The Convener of the Platform, Julius Logass made this known in an interview in Accra in response to whether the group would rally behind any of the candidates before and after the primary.
“The group Diplomatic Platform is an independent group who will not come out to support any individual for the flagbearer of the party.
“We’ll wait to see who will emerge as the winner of the whole competition and afterwards rally behind the winner to battle the New Patriotic Party in 2020.”
“In as much as the group won’t come out to support any individual in the flagbearer race in the party does not mean individuals in the group do not have choices.
“We have those who believe in other candidates but I will go for former President Mahama even though he has not shown any interest as to whether he will contest the flagbearer position or not.
“But trust me, I will personally sue the former President if he refuses to compete for the position.
“I will shock the whole of Ghana as to why I’m taking that decision and the fact is that, the former President would do the NDC a great disservice if he refuses to come back for the flagbearer position of the party,” he noted.
Mr Logass pointed out that former President John Mahama is the party’s best bet for election 2020 and cannot ignore him for anybody in the party at this moment.
He indicated that anybody can contest but the only candidate that can bring the party back to power in 2020 is former President Mahama.
Mr Logass insisted that former President Mahama has been tried and tested and today, majority of Ghanaians including his serious critics have come to the realisation that the NPP and President Nana Akufo-Addo lied to them and can’t deliver on the numerous campaign promises they made to them.
“If there is anyone who can salvage this nation from the hands of the NPP then it is the same man through whom Ghana saw a lot of progress In terms of infrastructure and developments. –ghanapoliticsonline.com
