He indicated that former President John Dramani Mahama remained the best person to be the presidential candidate for the 2020 election.
He therefore advised NDC members to support him lead the party to the 2020 polls.

“I fully support John Mahama to lead the party in 2020. It will be easier to recapture power,” the MP told the Kumasi-based Nhyira FM on Saturday.

The lawmaker also dismissed suggestions by some political pundits who claimed it would be difficult for the party to recapture power in the next elections with former President Mahama as the party’s flagbearer, reiterating that it would rather be easier with him in charge.

“Same political pundits predicted massive win for NDC but look at what happened after the 2016 elections.
These pundits could also get it wrong if they say former President Mahama will not help,” he explained.

Mr.Opoku who spoke to the station from the United Kingdom used the opportunity to advise those who may be interested in contesting as flagbearership to consider the supreme interest of the party.

Several names have been come up as possible contestants. They include the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu; former Minister of Communications, Dr Edward Omane Boamah; former Minister of Trade and Industry; Dr Ekow Spio Gabrah and former Chief Executive of National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah.
