The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his inauguration as the Fifth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
A statement issued by the executive of NUGS and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said: “The NUGS wishes the entire Administration the best of all that there is in political goodwill and service.
“As usual NUGS will be with you every step of the way ensuring that the interest of our constituents is protected. “As you assume office, we are particularly excited and optimistic about the implementation of the massive promise you made to students of Ghana and the good people of this country in general. Key amongst them is the restoration of teacher trainee and nurses trainee allowances and their prompt payments.”
The statement said education was one of the topmost priorities of President Akufo-Addo adding; “we couldn’t have been more grateful for your recourse and determination in that regard…we share in your joy and vision for a prosperous Ghana.’’
It pledged its support to the Government and said NUGS looked forward to working with the agencies that dealt directly with their constituents to ensure a meaningful partnership to develop the country.
The statement expressed gratitude to former President Dramani Mahama for his show of statesmanship and goodwill after his defeat at the polls. “Indeed the events of post December 7 have made Ghana a shining beacon of hope for democracy in a region known for political instability mostly instigated by elections,’’ the statement said.
