Shiite rebels from northern Yemen said Wednesday that two families were killed in U.S. air strikes, which were targeting rebel posts in the northern province of Saada.
A U.S. raid on al-Hareba area in Saada province left a house in ruins with seven members of the al-Meteish family under the rubble, the Houthi rebels said in a statement posted on the internet.
Another air strike in Saqqin city in the same province killed another family, added the statement.
The rebels on Tuesday accused the U.S. of deploying its war jets to join attacks against them, claiming at least 120 people in a raid in
northern Yemen. There was no immediate comment from the U.S. or Yemen on the allegation.
The statement also said the rebels repelled a Saudi attack in al-Jaberi border area, noting that Saudi troops fled the scene leaving two destroyed tanks behind.
Meanwhile, Yemeni Interior Ministry said a rebel leader was killed and other rebels injured in an ambush in the northeastern province of al-Jawf.
Hamoud al-Qatwani, 33, was ambushed by security forces and tribesmen when he was driving a car, local Saba news agency reported.
The report did not give further details on how many rebels were injured or where the ambush took place.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested about 200 Houthi rebels in the past few days in the old city of Saada, the state-run state agency said.
