The Tema Youth For Christ (TYFC), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, the Ghana AIDS Commission, the Ghana Education Service, and the
Standard Chartered Bank, have organised an HIV/AIDS Awareness Programme for Junior High School students in the Ashaiman Municipality to mark World AIDS
Day.
Madam Sarah Ansah, a Senior Nurse at the Tema Polyclinic, took the students through the various ways a person could contract the virus and how
to prevent the virus.
She said such programmes would be organised on a regular basis to remind students of the adverse effects of the HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Abraham Sanni-Thomas, Board Chairman of the TYFC, said the organisation sought to reach out to the youth and to educate them on issues to help them take the right decisions in life.
Mr Sanni-Thomas said they had targeted students in the JHS because since most of them had reached the adolescent stage they easily become more
sensitive to sexual activities.
