Singapore on Friday opened its inaugural Traditional Medicine Expo (TMExpo) which will be held from Dec. 4 to 6.
Jointly organized by the Singapore Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Organizations Committee (STOC) and the Singapore TCM College, TMExpo 2009
will allow organizations involved in patented medicine, raw herbs, herbal extracts, health supplements, health care and therapy, as well as equipment and related services to showcase their latest traditional medicine products and services.
TMExpo 2009 is the first major exhibition organized by the TCM industry in Singapore since the late 1980s.
With strong overseas presence, the expo will feature various pavilions including one from China, China's Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Singapore.
According to STOC, Singapore's imports of traditional medicine from China have jumped from 24.2 million U.S. dollars in 2005 to 35.6 million
U.S. dollars in 2007.
Currently, there are already more than 8,000 approved Chinese medicine products brought in by around 200 importers, manufacturers and suppliers
which are sold at about 700 retail pharmacies in Singapore.
The three-day event is open to trade as well as members of the public.
