The Right Reverend Paul A. Blewu in-charge of the Akim Oda Methodist Diocese, has called on the government and other stakeholders to offer practical support for technical education to
facilitate the manpower needed for national development.
Rt. Rev. Col. Blewu (Rtd) made the call when he inaugurated a 14- member new board of governors expected to inject new blood into the administration of Attafuah Senior High School at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.
He noted that the continuous need to innovate and improve the quality of technical, vocational and secondary education was to focus on training and development, to ensure that students acquire the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to perform their jobs diligently.
Rt. Rev. Blewu asked the board to be proactive and dedicated to its work in order to produce disciplined, high performing and committed students.
The board should also endeavour to offer advisory and consultancy services to all departments of the school on solutions to problems, with the view to raise the level of efficiency and productivity.
The board has been mandated to integrate information technology into all aspects of the school's operations for effective and excellent academic work.
The members are expected to review, monitor and evaluate the work of the Management of the school, established in September, 1991.
The school has 583 students with 43 teaching and 24 non-teaching staff.
Mr. David Afram, Birim Central Municipal Director of Education is the Chairman of the board with Mr. Vincent Kwame Nkrumah as Secretary.
Mr Afram, thanked the government for the confidence reposed in the members and gave the assurance that they would be free and fair in their decisions and also work tirelessly and assiduously towards the provision of infrastructure and other academic facilities in the school, to justify their appointment.
Mr. Johnson Yeboah Gyekye, Headmaster of the school who spoke to the Ghana News Agency after the inauguration expressed confidence that the board would executive its functions vigorously to help attain co-operation among management, staff and students of the institute.
Mr. Gyekye observed that the development of the staff and students of the academic body was necessary to meet the challenges of the times.
