Sri Lankan weather experts asked the public on Sunday to take precautionary action to minimize the impact of possible lightning attacks during the prevailing inter monsoon season of the country. Head of the Physics Department of the Colombo University Chandima Gomes told reporters on Sunday that there are two lightning threat periods in a year for the island. October and November is the second period while March and April is the first period. "Now we are passing the second period during the Inter Monsoon season," he said, adding that the threat will prevail until the end of this month. He said people should remain indoors during lightning and avoid houses with tin roofing as far as possible, among others. Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology of Sri Lanka warns that the on-going bad weather condition will last for two or three days. Meteorologist Chaminda de Silva said there would be showers in several places in the northern, eastern, Uva and north central provinces in the next few days. He said sea areas around the island may be rough at times and fishermen are advised to take precautionary action to minimize possible hazards.
