The Bibiani Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Justice Emmanuel Ankama has adjourned to November 4, the case in which Nana Yaw Gyebi II, Omanhene of the Sefwi-Anhwiaso Traditional area, and 15
others, are standing trial for abetment of crime, threat of death, causing unlawful damage and release of a suspect from lawful custody.
They have all pleaded not guilty and are on GH¢ 6000.00 bail each with a surety to be justified.
When the case was called on Wednesday, the court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two of the accused persons, Eluo Kuraku and Kwasi Bernie who
failed to appear before it.
The adjournment was at the instance of Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, who has just taken over the prosecution to allow him time to study
the docket.
On New Year eve 2004, police received information that a group of people led by Nana Gyebi II, armed with guns and other offensive weapons, was
demolishing a block of seven stores at Degede, a suburb of Bibiani.
The structure was being developed by one Richard Ackah and had reached the lintel level of construction.
Some policemen were therefore dispatched to the scene and on arrival found that the entire block had been completely levelled.
The police managed to arrest one of the suspects but the Omanhene led the other accused persons to storm the police station and forcibly released him
from lawful custody.
