Mr Kwabena Taah Korang, Tema Regional Fire Officer (RFO), has advised residents within the metropolis, who engage in illegal fuel activities like siphoning, and sale of fuel, in the industrial area, to desist from such practices.
Giving the advice in Tema after the launch of "Operation Keep Tema Safe" (OKTS), exercise, undertaken by his outfit to clamp down on illegal fuel activities, Mr Korang said the Fire Service was determined to rid the Industrial City of fire hazards.
Exercise OKTS, he said, was a follow up to series of activities initiated jointly by the Fire Service, the Police, and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, to ensure that illegal fuel and other unauthorized activities around the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) area stopped forthwith.
Referring to Act 537, Ghana National Fire Service Act of 1997, Legislative Instrument 1724, the Tema RFO said it mandated the Service to prevent and manage fires.
To this end, he stressed the need to organise public fire educational programmes to create and sustain awareness of fire hazards and to heighten the role of individuals in fire prevention.
