Mr. Chemogo Derl Gregory, District Manager of the Forest Services Division at NKawie in Ashanti, has urged Ghanaians to adhere to laws on environmental conservation.
This, he said, would help to protect the country's forest resources including special timber species that were becoming extinct due to the high rate of illegal tree felling.
In an interview with the GNA at Nyinahin, Mr. Gregory decried the impunity with which people polluted water resources, particularly in the forest areas.
He said the development of Ghana's bio-diversity would to a large extent depend on proper forestry management.
Mr. Gregory called for harsher punishment on people who would be caught destroying the forest and environment.
He said the Division had planned to sensitise the public on how to protect the forest, through community durbars and radio programmes, this year.
