The UN General Assembly adopted on Wednesday a resolution that called on relevant UN organs to give attention to the security implications of climate change.
The resolution, approved by consensus by the 192-member body, called on relevant UN organs to "to intensify their efforts in considering and addressing climate change, including its possible security implications."
It requested UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to submit a comprehensive report to the assembly at its 64th session, which begins in September, "on the possible security implications of climate change, based on the views of the member states and relevant regional and international organizations."
