MTN employees on Wednesday undertook a one-hour teaching exercises in selected community schools across the company's four operation units, across the country.
The exercise, which took place simultaneously in Kumasi, Takoradi, Koforidua and Accra, formed part of this year's edition of the 21 days of Y'ello Care Challenge programme.
The annual event, with the focus on community-development was instituted by the MTN Group, to encourage its employees to be personally involved in community development projects.
This year, the Accra Unit, comprising Accra, Tema and Volta Region offices of the company, fraternised with teachers and pupils of the Adenta Community Basic School.
They taught the students subjects ranging from English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies to French Language.
Mr Frank Kofi Ayivor, Senior Analyst, Customer Management, said the programme on the theme: "Enriching our Communities, leaving a sustainable legacy," was to demonstrate their commitment to the well being of communities in which MTN operated.
He said the aim of the exercise was to inspire the pupils and make a difference in their lives.
"It is our hope that the one hour lessons would leave a sustainable legacy and motivate them to aspire higher in life," he said.
Madam Cecilia Awittor, Headmistress of the Adenta Community Junior High School, described the programme as laudable and urged MTN to consider other areas such as the provision of physical structures and teaching materials to beneficiary schools in future project.
Madam Rukia Khalid, Headmistress of the Primary School, commended the staff for the gesture, since it was the first time that a corporate body had embarked on such an exercise.
She said the school lacked classroom blocks and computer laboratory and urged the MTN to assist them in that direction.
Master Samuel Erzuah and Miss Candra Abaah, Boys' and Girls' School Prefects, thanked MTN for the gesture.
Later, Mr Mashudu Munyai, Managing Director, Finance Operations of MTN, presented souvenirs to the school.
Some of the activities MTN would be taken within the 21 days include Management and Staff interaction with orphans, painting of selected schools, hospitals and zebra crossings, pitch enhancement, filling of pot holes, career guidance and counselling, tree planting, malaria prevention campaign, and blood donation.
