Several identifiable groups in the Cape Coast Metropolis including members of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), personnel of Ghana National Fire Service, market associations and Zoomlion on Saturday undertook a five- hour clean-up exercise in the metropolis.
Organised by the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) in conjunction with Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, they swept the streets, de- silted choked up gutters, cleared weedy areas and scrubbed pavements.
The Central Regional Minister Ms Ama Benyiwa Doe commended the residents and the groups for turning up in their numbers for the exercise and urged them to keep up their communal spirit vibrant.
She said the first 100 days of President Mills administration was just a minor fraction of his four-year term in office, and appealed to people in the metropolis irrespective of their political affiliation to contribute their quota towards nation building.
Accompanied by Osabarimba Nana Kwesi Ata II Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, the Minister also visited the Kotokuraba abattoir to acquaint himself with the operations of the butchers.
She advised the butchers to always keep the place tidy to avoid an outbreak of epidemic.
