Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert arrived at President Shimon Peres' residence on Sunday evening and was scheduled to submit his resignation letter.
Olmert's office said in a statement released hours earlier thatthe prime minister, who took office just 33 months ago, would callon Peres in the evening in order to submit his letter of resignation from the premiership.
The visit came hours after scandal-plagued Olmert, who has beenreplaced by Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni as chair of the ruling Kadima party, told his cabinet that he would resign as he promised.
