Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of the Kpone Traditional Area, said work on GH¢ 100,000 Kpone District Police Headquarters would soon commence.
He said personnel at the police station which was made district headquarters last year, has been operating from a rented apartment for the past 45 years.
Nii Otu said these at the sod cutting ceremony for commencement of work on the project at Kpone.
He said the traditional council released land and pre-financed the start of the project on the request of the police administration.
Nii Out, who is also president of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, commended the police for discharging the work professionally and said the residents were enjoying relative peace.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Duku Arthur, Director-General in-charge-of Technical Services at the Police Headquarters, said the Council's support for the project indicated the chiefs' readiness to assist the police to fight crime.
He expressed worry that the police administration could not post more police personnel to Kpone due to the lack of adequate office and residential accommodation there.
COP Arthur called on district assemblies through out the country and other stakeholders to assist in providing adequate accommodation for the police to enhance the fight against crime.
Mr David Quaye Annang, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, asked the police to be alive to their responsibility of maintaining law and order.
He advised the public to send or report suspected criminals to the police station instead of lynching them.
