Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Tuesday urged Muslims to pray to Almighty Allah for a prosperous Ghana and peaceful elections.
He said this was a month in which Muslims were enjoined to pray incessantly because during the period the Almighty was most gracious in His answering of the prayers of His servants.
"It is for this reason that on behalf of the National Democratic Congress and on my own behalf, I congratulate all Muslims in Ghana on the occasion of the Ramadan. May the Almighty Allah accept their fast and prayers," Prof. Atta Mills stated.
"At the beginning of the week, our Muslim brothers and sisters in Ghana alongside their fellow Muslims around the world started the annual fast in the Holy Month of Ramadan. To them all, I greet them Asalam-alaikum," he said.
The Holy Month of Ramadan is the month in which Allah revealed the Holy Quran to the Holy Prophet Mohammad and during the month, Muslims are obliged to fast for 29 or 30 days when the moon has been sighted.
During the period of fast, Muslims are forbidden from taking food and water from dawn to sunset and from harm unto one another. They are enjoined to eschew all vices and show kindness unto all.
