The Asante-Akim South District Assembly, has donated an anaesthetic machine worth 8,000 Ghana cedis to the Juaso District Hospital.
The machine is to revamp the hospital's theatre in the face of the increasing pressure on the existing facility.
Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, the District Chief Executive, making the presentation at the weekend, said the donation formed part of the Assembly's effort to upgrade the hospital to an appreciable standard.
He noted also that the donation was aimed at reducing the number of referrals to other health facilities, saying the situation did not befit the status of the hospital.
He said the assembly was committed to equipping the hospital with the required equipment to enable it deliver quality health care for the people.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom urged the management of the hospital to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to prolong its life span.
Mrs Philomina Adoma Kwayie, Matron of the hospital, noted that the donation was timely, and would cater for the increased hospital attendance following government policy of free health care for pregnant women.
She commended the Assembly for the gesture and assured that the machine would be put to good use.
