Mr. Charles Kallah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Secretary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has urged teachers to live above reproach so that the Association would have the moral courage to defend them and fight for improvement in their service conditions.
Mr. Kallah was addressing teachers at separate meetings at Nkoranza at the end of conferences organised for them by the District GNAT Secretariat at 10 local centres to sensitise them on the role of the Association.
"Even though GNAT stands to defend teachers, it will not countenance the wrong doings of any teacher", he said and cautioned them against immoral behaviour.
Mr. Kallah urged the teachers to remain united and to present a common front to fight for their rights.
Mr. James Edjei Biney, District GNAT Secretary announced that a Teachers Cooperative Credit Union had been established to offer loans to them ad advised them to take advantage of the facility.
He deplored the attitude of some teachers who took loans from private credit institutions whose conditions were embarrassing and advised those interested in doing business with them to stop.
"Teachers in the District should register with the Nkoranza Area
Teachers Cooperative Credit Union to improve their economic activities".
Mr. Adjei Yeboah, Chairman of the District GNAT urged the teachers to avail themselves of the distance education programme to be able to meet the challenges of the educational reforms programme.
He asked them to redouble efforts to help improve the falling standard in education to enhance the development of the District.
