Residents of Tamale and its surrounding communities are expected to soon experience improved water supply from the Ghana Water Limited (GWL) following the procurement of new equipment for the intake plant at Nawuni.
The intervention, which forms part of the company’s short-term plans, is expected to increase water production from the current 35,000 cubic metres to about 45,000 cubic metres per day to serve the growing population in the area.
Speaking during a visit to assess ongoing maintenance works at the plant on Monday, March 16, the Northern Regional Chief Manager of GWL, Stephen Amihere, explained that the newly procured parts from the original equipment manufacturer would help boost production capacity, provided there are no power outages.
“For a very long time, there will not be any breakdown. So, if we are producing 45,000 cubic metres a day, that level will be maintained unless there are power outages.
“With consistent production, areas that previously struggled to get water will start receiving it. These new pumps will eliminate downtimes caused by mechanical faults,” he said.
