The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with AstriaLearning, a United States-based global education technology firm, to establish a fully digital e-campus to expand access to quality education.
The initiative will strengthen the university’s distance education through a robust digital ecosystem, offering flexible learning opportunities for undergraduates, postgraduates and working professionals.
Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UCC, and Mr Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, Registrar, signed for the university, while Dr Jeff Bordes, Chief Executive Officer, and Ana Eristavi, Global Operations Coordinator, signed for AstriaLearning.
Under the agreement, AstriaLearning will provide infrastructure, enrolment systems, digital learning architecture and operational expertise to support programme delivery. Academic authority, however, will remain fully vested in UCC to safeguard its standards, values and traditions.
The first cohort of students is expected to be admitted in August this year, with the university targeting 10,000 active students annually.
Prof Aheto said the partnership presented vast opportunities for UCC as a pioneer in distance education, especially amid rapid technological advancement. He noted that the platform would enhance UCC’s global visibility, attract more international students and improve operational efficiency and academic programmes.
Dr Bordes described the platform as a driver of technology-enabled transformation, institutional growth and excellence. He highlighted its flexibility for working professionals and its potential to strengthen Ghana’s workforce, calling it an economic infrastructure.
He said the digital campus would revolutionise the academic system and enable professionals to access US-level education at affordable fees. Citing global evidence, he noted that each additional year of schooling increases earnings by eight to 10 per cent.

“A better educated Ghana means higher workforce connectivity, stronger poverty solutions, more competitive enterprises, greater investor confidence and more stable communities,” he said.
Dr Bordes expressed optimism about the platform’s contribution to national development and encouraged professionals across Ghana to apply, projecting that in 10 years thousands of additional UCC graduates would advance into leadership roles in government, healthcare, education, finance and industry.
