The World Health Organization (WHO) has pledged to intensify support for breast cancer patients in Ghana, aiming to improve access to life-saving treatment and strengthen overall healthcare services.

Speaking at a meeting in Accra on Wednesday, February 4, Dr. Joana Ansong, who is responsible for non-communicable diseases and mental health, highlighted the significant challenges patients face in accessing timely and effective care.

She emphasised that many women encounter a difficult road to recovery, underscoring the urgent need for strengthened healthcare interventions.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with partners Pfizer and Jhpiego, focused on identifying practical strategies to improve care and support for individuals living with breast cancer.

“WHO will continue to support Africa, particularly Ghana, through evidence-based global and regional initiatives, including the global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer, and integrated cancer services for women,” she said.
