Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman and Deputy Finance Minister, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has commissioned a cornmill livelihood project at Anum to support persons with disabilities in the community.
The cornmill facility has been strategically sited near the town’s main market, close to the Anum Rural Bank.
According to the MP, he was motivated by the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the area and decided to invest in a sustainable, income-generating venture to improve their livelihoods.
He explained that the project was personally funded to provide long-term economic support and renewed hope for members of the Anum Disabled Association.
“This project is for all persons with disabilities here. Beyond this, there will be individual support for the more than 45 members of the Anum Disabled Association in the future,” he said.
The MP called on the public to patronise the facility to ensure its sustainability and enable it to serve its intended purpose.
He also urged members of the association to establish a project management team to oversee its operations, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in managing proceeds.
The MP commissioned also a community information centre, which he said was funded with support from a friend.
The information centre is located within the Theodosia Oko Enclave to enhance accessibility for residents.
He added that additional development projects had been planned for the constituency within the year, noting that these included the construction of a new boys’ dormitory at the Anum Presbyterian Senior High School, an administration block, and an additional block for the Anum Vocational Institute.
He assured residents that other communities within the constituency would also benefit from ongoing and future projects.
The Deputy Finance Minister further announced that the Osebeng-Boso Road was being considered under the government’s Big Push initiative for expedited execution.
He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Anum for their cooperation throughout the implementation of the projects.
Mr George Odei, the President of the Anum Disabled Association, thanked the MP for what he described as a pleasant surprise and assured that the association would take all necessary steps to ensure the cornmill project was managed effectively.
He also encouraged other persons with disabilities in the community to register with the association to benefit from collective support initiatives.
