The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisaton (GFD) on Wednesday welcomed four new organisations into their fold as partners.
The organisations are Stroke Association Support Network (SASNET), Integrated Dignity and Economic Advancement (IDEA – Ghana), Ghana Association of Persons with Little Stature (GAP-LIS) and the Association of Parents and Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities in Ghana
Mr Joseph Atsu Homadzi, President of the GFD, who inaugurated the four new partner organisations at a ceremony, said the GFD was committed to supporting minority or under-developed organisations championing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
“Working with you as partners will help you to get a stronger voice,” he said
Mr Homadzi said the GFD has got the support of the European Union to strengthen the disability movement in Ghana
The European Union (EU) is partnering the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) , Mental Health Society of Ghana (MEHSOG) and the Africa Disability Institute (ADI) to implement a three-year project aimed at strengthening the capacities of 16 organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) at national, regional and in 32 districts.
A key project activity is to “mobilise minority disability groups (Persons with Deaf Blindness, Cured Lepers, Little People) into Organisations of Persons with Disabilities and Build their Affiliation with GFD”.
Mrs Rita Kyeremaa Kusi, Executive Director of the GFD advised the new organisations to formally put in an application to become full members of the GFD.
