The Ghana Police Hospital is appealing to the public to help trace the families of seven patients receiving care at the facility, some of whom have remained unidentified for close to two years.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page on August 6, 2025, the hospital’s Public Affairs Officer, Chief Inspector Faustina Afia Nunekpeku, said the affected patients were brought in under different circumstances, including road accidents, suspected assaults, and other emergencies. Despite efforts by staff to reach their relatives, the individuals remain without family contact.
Three of the seven patients were admitted in July 2025. One, a 32-year-old man, was taken to the hospital’s Emergency Unit on July 31 by Chief Inspector Robert Marfo, accompanied by two lawyers. He had been found lying by the roadside at Suncity near Labadi, reportedly thrown out of a taxi by unknown attackers on Saturday, July 26.
On the same day, Chief Inspector George Amoah of the Westland Police Station found another man lying in front of the Fidelity Bank at Haatso. He had several sores on his body and has not been able to communicate any information to help locate his family.
The third recent case involves a 35-year-old man found unconscious by a police patrol on July 28, suspected to be a victim of a hit-and-run incident. He is about five feet tall, dark in complexion, and is currently being treated for a fractured leg, head injuries, and bruises.
Some of the other patients have been at the hospital for longer periods. One man, known only as “Efo”, was brought in as a road traffic accident victim on August 23, 2023. Although he has been medically cleared for discharge after receiving treatment for eight months, he remains in the hospital because his family cannot be located. Attempts to trace them through media publications have so far been unsuccessful.
Another patient, who identified himself as Yaw Obour and said he is about 65 years old, has been under care since January 30, 2025. He was found at Awoshie last stop and said he has a wife and children but has not been able to provide further details due to difficulty speaking.
The hospital is also caring for two unidentified women. One, brought in on November 9, 2024, was found at Achimota by Corporal Diamond Ahiagbabu of the Tesano District MTTD. She has been unable to provide any information about herself or her family.
The other woman, estimated to be around 55 years old, was brought in on March 27, 2023, after being involved in an accident at Amasaman. Despite television broadcasts aimed at tracing her relatives, the hospital’s Social Services Department has been unsuccessful due to her inability to speak clearly or recall her family details.
Chief Inspector Nunekpeku noted that although the patients are currently in stable condition, those who have been discharged risk further health problems if they remain in the hospital without being reintegrated into family care.
The hospital’s Public Affairs Unit and Social Services Department are urging anyone with information to contact them on 0201777513 or 0246535172.
Hospital authorities say finding the relatives of these patients is necessary for both their emotional support and to prevent the risk of further complications for those cleared to leave.
