Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has given a firm conviction of his resolve to help bring lasting peace to troubled Bawku and its environs.

This comes after efforts to resolve the protracted Bawku conflict were temporarily postponed due to the complexities surrounding the long-standing chieftaincy dispute.

However, the Asantehene noted that he is confident recent mediation talks with feuding factions will bring peace to the area.

Speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Manhyia Palace, the Asantehene said lasting peace will be restored.

“We need peace to develop. My duty, together with the traditional authority, is to make sure that there is peace everywhere. Therefore, we make sure that we adjudicate issues when there are conflicts everywhere so that the government can also have peace to do its work.

“Recently there have been some communal conflict within the upper part of Ghana, closer to Burkina Faso (Bawku), but we are putting in every effort to ensure there is lasting peace,” he stated.
