The University of Ghana (UG) has officially launched a roll out of leadership modules programme aimed at equipping staff and students with leadership skills
The initiative, under the auspices of the Legon Leadership Academy, was unveiled at a ceremony held at the Cedi Conference and attended by faculty, staff, and students.
The leadership modules will offer a series of practical and inclusive programmes designed to cultivate leadership potential across all disciplines.
The initial rollout features modules, covering key areas such as higher education institutions and their management structure, administrative leadership in higher education among other modules.
Higher education institutions and their management structure module would provide insights into organisational frameworks and decision-making processes within universities.
Administrative leadership in higher education module would focus on strategic planning, effective management, and fostering collaboration.
Basic laws and policies of the University of Ghana would ensure leaders are well-versed in the legal and ethical standards governing the institution.
Financial leadership would equip participants with financial management expertise, balancing sustainability and accountability.
Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice-Chancellor, UG emphasised the university's long-standing commitment to academic excellence, but stressed the importance of nurturing ethical and capable leaders in today's complex world.
"Academic excellence alone is not enough; we must also nurture leaders who are capable of driving positive change in their communities, nations and the world."
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted UG's unique position as the nation's premier university and its impressive track record of producing graduates who have become leaders in various fields, including Presidents, academics, politicians and civil servants.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that the modules, and others to be offered in future rollouts, would be available as stand- alone workshops.
The Vice-Chancellor encouraged attendees to sign up for the available modules and highlighted the importance of developing leadership skills for all members of the university community.
She said the leadership institute project underscored the University of Ghana's commitment to not only producing graduates, but also cultivating future leaders who will make a positive impact on Ghana and the world.
