The Akrofuom District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged students of Akrofuom Senior High Technical School on cyber security.
The engagement, which was put together by the counselling unit of the school on the theme, "The Internet Never Forgets" sought to sensitise the students on responsible and safe navigation of cyber space.
They were taught to stay safe on the internet and desist from posting materials that could haunt them in future.
Mr. Simon Tawiah, a Civic Education Officer at the District Directorate of NCCE, entreated the students to be mindful of what they post on the internet in terms of decency.
They should not allow youthful exuberance to cloud their sense of reasoning because actions they take today may have consequences tomorrow.
"Posting indecent pictures or videos of yourself or sharing such materials with others may seem to be having fun but you may live to regret it one day," he cautioned the students.
Mr. Tawiah also spoke about the risk of giving so much information about themselves, thereby increasing their vulnerabilities to cyber-attacks.
He reminded them not to fall for suspicious websites and links deliberately shared online to lure unsuspecting internet users under the pretext of promotion and other outrageous offers.
He said the internet was an important resource that students could leverage to enhance academic work, but it could also jeopardise their future if they abuse it.
The NCCE official therefore advised them to use it for their education rather than unproductive activities.
