Takoradi Technical University in an effort to cement its place as the premier Technical University and a leader in research among the TU’s has introduced a Research and Publication ranking system to encourage and promote research to aid development.
Speaking at the 24th TTU Congregation where 2,678 students successfully graduated with various qualifications after completing their programmes of study for the 2023/2024 academic year, the Vice Chancellor of TTU, Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun, said the University in addition to leading the way in fostering research collaborations with local and international institutions, has introduced Inter-Faculty research competitions to drive this agenda.

“In line with this, we have introduced an inter-faculty Research and Publication ranking system to assess, promote, and enhance research culture and academic performance. This initiative aims to nurture scholarly excellence among academic staff, increase the University’s visibility, and improve its standing in research rankings,” he said.
In his report to the 24th Congregation, the Vice Chancellor of TTU said out of the 2,678 students who
have successfully graduated with various qualifications at the 24th congregation, 25 of them were persons of various disabilities which marks a significant inclusive education milestone of the 70th Anniversary of the University.
“A total of twenty-five (25) students with disabilities, comprising twenty- four (24) hearing-impaired students and one (1) with physical disabilities, are graduating today. This brings the total number of deaf students who graduated from the University to one hundred and eighty-nine (189) since the establishment of the Disability Support and Services Unit in 2017,” he said.
On the breakdown of the graduating batch, Rev. Prof. Eshun said the 24th congregation is awarding
Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, and Diploma of Technology to deserving graduands who successfully completed their programmes of study in the 2023/2024 Academic Year, with 74 receiving First Class at the Bachelor of Technology level and 132 also receiving First Class at the HND level.
“In the 2023/2024 academic year, the University successfully graduated 2,678 students. Of these, 695 will be awarded Bachelor of Technology degrees, and 1,983 will receive Higher National Diplomas…579 individuals will be awarded Diploma of Technology certificates and 129 will receive Competency Based Training certificates,” he said.
Stating some progress made by the University, he said TTU has increased its faculties and seeking to introduce PhD programmes and BSc programmes soon.
“In our ongoing commitment to expanding academic opportunities, the University has established three new faculties: the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, the Faculty of Maritime and Nautical Studies, and the Faculty of Media Technology and Liberal Studies (formerly CELLIBS), bringing the total number of faculties to eight. The University currently offers a range of Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology (MTech) programmes, catering to the diverse needs of our students and industry.
“As part of our commitment to academic excellence and innovation, we are in the process of introducing PhD programmes in Business Analytics and Technology Management to expand our academic portfolio. Our long-term goal is to develop PhD programmes across all faculties, ensuring that we provide advanced research and learning opportunities that align with the evolving demands of both academia and industry,” he noted.
Rev. Prof. Eshun mentioned BSc. Event Management, BSc. Real Estate Management, B.Tech. Media and Communication Technology as new programmes introduced in the year under review.
He therefore reiterated TTU’s determination to provide better education and nurture students with relevance to the world.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm the University’s commitment to delivering quality education, fostering robust industry partnerships, and equipping our graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.
“We pledge to uphold our mission of academic excellence, research, innovation, and community engagement, ensuring that today’s graduates are well-prepared to make meaningful contributions to society and industry. Additionally, we remain dedicated to maintaining a supportive and conducive learning environment, continually striving to enhance the overall student experience,” he assured.
While congratulating the graduands, he encouraged them to make better use of their skills and project the values and vision of the University.
“I am confident that the quality of technical education you have received here has equipped you with the skills to generate your own jobs. Be exemplary envoys of Takoradi Technical University, embodying the spirit of our cherished motto: Adwen, Akoma na Nsa ma Mpuntu (Mind, Heart, and Hands for Development),” he urged.
Representing the Chairman of the Governing Council of TTU, Ing. Dr. Robert Adjaye, a council member congratulated the students on their achievements and urged them to be good ambassadors of TTU.

Graduands who stood out at the 24th TTU congregation received citations and cash prizes as their ward.
They include Ebenezer Kwame Egyir, HND ICT-Overall Best Graduating Student with Disability, Debora Fofo Adjei, HND in Tourism Management-Overall Best Graduating Diploma of Technology Student and Jeremy Okwesi, B. Tech. Procurement Logistics and Supply Chain Management- Overall Best Graduating B. Tech. student.
