The Overlord of Gonjaland, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, has made a passionate appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to carve a new district out of the Central Gonja District.
The move, according to him, would enhance local governance, transparency and accountability and bring rapid socio-economic development to the doorstep of the people.
"Central Gonja District’s expansive territory necessitates the creation of a new district to ensure equitable development.”
“Some parts of the district are not receiving their due share of development, hence the need for Tuluwe District," he explained.
He further stated that creating a separate district would allow for more focused resource allocation, addressing the unique needs of the Tuluwe area, while creating job opportunities for its residents.
Yagbonwura Soale I made the appeal when President Akufo-Addo paid a courtesy call on him at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo as part of his tour of the Savannah Region last Monday.
The Yagbonwura lauded the government for the creation of the Savannah Region, which had already brought significant development to the area, but indicated that more work had to be done to meet the region’s challenges.
He said previous petitions for the creation of the region were only realised under the current administration, proving the government's responsiveness to the needs of the people.
The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, commended the President for the creation of the Savannah Region and the numerous development projects brought to the area.
Mr Jinapor acknowledged the region's existing challenges but gave the assurance that the challenges would be addressed progressively.
"We recognise the challenges facing the region and will tackle them one after the other until the region is fully developed," he said.
