Professor Christiana Hammond has been appointed as the Rector of the Institute of Journalism of the University of Media, Arts and Communications (UniMAC).
She is the first female to occupy such a position in the university.
She is an Associate Professor in Intercultural Communication and Pragmatics.
The university announced Prof. Hammond's appointment in a statement on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
Prof. Hammond has published extensively in areas such as identity studies, pragmatics and intercultural communication, metadiscourse, genre analysis, online dating, onomastics, cyber throlling and hate speech, and cultural shock and navigation process among others
Her academic publications include book chapters, chapters in well recognised issues including ORCID, Researchgate, SAGE, and Academia.com.
Prof. Hammond is also a gender advocate and a Public Speaker.
She has worked on a number of projects for her country including being a member of a team tasked to conduct a situational analysis and curriculum mapping of educational materials in basic schools in Ghana to determine the prevalence of the ESD indicators and the 2030 SDG Learning Objectives in Ghana’s Education Policy Documents and Curriculum respectively.
