Nursing mothers have been advised not to substitute breast milk with cow milk products when feeding their babies.
Dr Simon Osei Frimpong, Medical Superintendent of the Kwesimintsim Hospital in the Western Region, made these remarks during the distribution of cocoa products to breastfeeding mothers at the hospital by the Cocoa Processing Company (CPC).
The distribution aimed to help mothers increase their breast milk production.
He encouraged mothers to ensure they breastfeed their babies for the mandatory six months to promote healthy growth and prevent diseases.

Dr. Osei Frimpong expressed gratitude to CPC for supporting the nursing mothers.
“I will thank CPC for coming here with their products, these cocoa products are very important. We always preach that women should take something nutritious that will give them breast milk to give to the babies. You realise that it’s difficult to convince a lot of women to give their babies breast milk throughout.
“When you give breast milk to your child, it’s more or less like giving a lot of water and food, you don’t need to give water to the baby. The benefits are so huge. We’re preaching that nursing mothers should give breast milk to their babies in the first 6 months of the babies’ lives so that they are protected. What you see in the containers are from the cow that they have processed.”
