The Ghana Health Service is delighted to announce the establishment of the Inter-agency Coordinating Committee for Health Promotion (ICC-HP) for the Savannah region. This follows the successful establishment of similar committees in the other four northern regions of Ghana, i.e. Upper East, Upper West, Northern and North East. The ICC-HP embodies a joint initiative involving diverse agencies and stakeholders, committed to independent problem-solving and promoting the advancement of health promotion throughout the nation.

since its establishment in June 2010, with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), sought to leverage and synchronize the expertise of key stakeholders to improve the health and wellbeing of the Ghanaian population. As champions of health promotion, the committee strategically partners with government agencies to advocate for and execute policies that advance public health initiatives. Through ongoing efforts in health promotion services, the ICC-HP aims to foster a healthier nation for all Ghanaians.
Consisting of thirteen (13) members at present, the National ICC-HP features a broad representation spanning multiple sectors including health, media, education, government agencies, and NGOs. Poised to drive impactful initiatives, the committee, under the esteemed leadership of Professor Elsie Effah Kaufmann, the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana and a well-known host of the National Science and Maths Quiz, is ready to take action. The ICC-HP additionally receives unwavering support from a dedicated secretariat located at the Health Promotion Division in Korle-bu, guaranteeing efficient co-ordination and execution of its objectives.
The Acting Director of the Health Promotion Division- Ghana Health Service, Mrs. Mabel Kissiwah Asafo, emphasized the crucial role of the newly inaugurated members in advancing the collective mission of the ICC-HP. She charged them with the responsibility of actively contributing to the improvement of health and well-being within communities across Ghana.
At the regional level, ICC-HP members are selected from various entities including the Ghana Health Service, Information Services Department, Environmental Health and Sanitation Department, media outlets, and Non-Governmental Organizations. These members will lead and drive activities aimed at promoting health within their respective regions.
