His Holiness, Pope Francis, has appointed Reverend Monsignor John Opoku Agyemang as Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
The newly appointed Bishop will take over from Bishop Emeritus Most Reverend Joseph Osei-Bonsu who has been appointed as the Apostolic Administrator of the said Diocese until the canonical installation of the Bishop-elect.
Rev. Msgr. Agyemang is the Rector and Formator at the St Gregory the Great Provincial Major Seminary in Parkoso, Kumasi, the Chaplain of the Noble Order of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall and Chairman of the Konongo-Mampong Diocesan Synod Implementation Committee.
He is member of the College of Consultants in the Konongo-Mampong Diocese and also member of the Regional Conference of West Africa (RECOWA-CERAO) Seminaries Commission.
From 1985 to 2009, he was the Catholic Chaplain of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary parish at the KNUST in Kumasi.
Born on 15th August, 1957, Msgr Agyemang was ordained a Catholic Priest on 22nd January, 1984 and received the Prelate of Honour as Monsignor from the late Pope John Paul 11 on 6th August, 2005.
