The flood control programme was launched in response to the catastrophic floods on June 3rd, 2015, leading the government to secure funding from the World Bank to reduce the risk of flooding in Accra.
During a working visit to construction sites at Odawna, Alogboshie, and parts of Weija, the Minister assured contractors of ongoing government support in funding.
He urged contractors to stay committed to project schedules and deadlines.
“For us one of the key things is the speed of work. We want to be clear that contractors need to ensure that they deliver on time or sometimes even as quickly as possible ahead of schedule…Yes there have been issues with funding and approval etc.”
“But our people won’t forgive us if we don’t get this thing done quickly so that as the rains come down, we don’t have a lot of people being affected. So, for you our colleagues who are contractors please do well to get it on time or even earlier,” he said.
Moreover, he emphasized the need for contractors to work closely with local authorities to ensure proper handover and maintenance of drains upon the completion of projects.
