Homefoods Processing & Cannery Limited is a Ghanaian-owned company that is involved in agro-processing activities. The company, located on the Odorkor-mallam Road in Accra, Ghana, offers a wide range of finished and semi-finished food products to its diverse global consumer market.
Homefoods Processing & Cannery Limited was founded by Felicia Twumasi in August 1995. The company has since supported Ghana’s agricultural sector by utilizing locally sourced raw materials for its products. This not only helps to enhance the living standards of Ghanaian farmers, with a significant number of them being women but also ensures the production of diverse products that meet the needs of customers both locally and internationally. Additionally, the company is engaged in the reprocessing and packaging of partly processed food items from different parts of the world.
Homefoods offers a wide range of food products, such as Waakye, Seasoned rice, Gari, Palm-nut soup, Neri-Neri soup, Fava soup, Honey, Shito, Banku mix (made from corn and cassava dough), Millet porridge mix, and Flavour enhancers. These products are distributed to various destinations including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Italy, North America, The Gambia, and South Africa.
The company’s flagship product, red edible palm oil, has been a staple ingredient in many West African cuisines since 1995. Palm oil is one of the least expensive and most popular oils worldwide, accounting for one-third of global plant oil production. Aside from its economic benefit, red palm oil is also a healthier choice compared to other types of cooking oils.
Red Palm Oil is abundant in beta-carotene, a potent antioxidant nutrient that enhances the body's immune system. Additionally, it contains tocotrienols, a form of Vitamin E that provides substantial cardioprotective benefits. Tocotrienols are known to boost blood flow to the brain and are highly effective in eliminating cancer cells.
Also, red palm oil can improve vitamin A status in deficient people as the body can convert carotenoids to vitamin A.
Homefoods Processing & Cannery Limited has received global recognition for its innovative and creative approach to business. In 2023, the company was honoured with the Ghana Agriculture and Agro-Processing Awards. In 2016, it was named Africa's Best Premium Foods Company. Earlier in 2014, it received the Millenium Agribusiness Award in London as well as the 2009 Golden Business Prestige Award in Switzerland.
