Akate Farms and Trading Company is a major poultry farm in Ghana that has been operating since 1986. It produces a wide range of poultry products for both local and international markets. The farm is situated in Dote, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Alhaji Abdul Salam Akate is the Founder and CEO of Akate Farms. He hails from Baweisibele, a small village in the Sisala District in the Upper West Region of Ghana. Alhaji Akate comes from a family of farmers and did not receive a formal education due to financial constraints. However, he pursued his dreams in agriculture with dedication and hard work. He started by running a small poultry farm with 1,500 layers and 800 broilers. Today, Akate Farms has grown to include five commercial farms, two breeding farms, a hatchery, and a modern feed mill.
Akate Farms took part in the first phase of the Ghana Poultry Project as one of the chosen poultry practitioners. This project, an initiative by the US government, aimed to enhance the quality of Day-Old Chicks in Ghana. Akate Farms played a crucial role by providing their facility and human resources, which significantly contributed to the success of the project.
