The Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Evans Opoku-Bobie, on Friday inaugurated a 10- bed room specialised private ward for the Goaso Government Hospital.
The GH¢400, 000 facility fitted with modern gadgets, constructed with the MP’s share of the Common Fund, will help address the inadequate bed situation facing the hospital.
Speaking at the inauguration of the facility, Mr Opoku-Bobie, who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo North Constituency in the Ahafo Region, said he was motivated to construct the facility because of the limited beds for patients who seek medical care at the hospital.
He expressed worry that the Goaso Government Hospital, currently serving as a regional hospital for the Ahafo had only 118 beds.
Mr Opoku-Bobie said that he collaborated with groups to initiate projects in the area of health, education and agriculture, to alleviate the plight of the people.
He appealed to the people to support him and the government to bring development to the area.
Mr Opoku-Bobie urged the hospital management to take care of the facility to ensure its longevity.
The Ahafo Regional Director of Health, Dr Kwabena Boateng, commended the deputy minister for assisting the hospital, adding that “the facility had come at the right time to ease congestion and pressure at the hospital.”
He appealed for accommodation for health workers, especially medical doctors who sometimes refuse postings to the hospital due to the situation.
Nana Kwaku Akyere who represented the Goasohene, Nana Kwasi Bosompra, commended government and the deputy minister for prioritising the health needs of the region.
