She stated that although it was good to develop skills, talents and potentials, there was the need to also sharpen and develop one's soft skills such as emotional intelligence and confidence to be able to achieve one's dreams.

Ms Larbi, who was speaking to students of His Majesty Senior High School at a student summit, said it was important for students to be time conscious, have the ability to solve problems on the spot and be emotionally intelligent to set them above their peers so that they could achieve their dreams.

"There are some soft skills that young people need to acquire such as emotional intelligence, confidence, problem solving, among others, to be the best in whatever area they want to pursue but if they don't have these, it becomes difficult to cope and people might look down on you," she said.

The national best teacher also called on her colleague teachers to pay critical attention to the needs and skills of students and help them harness those skills.

"As teachers, we play a lot of roles, including being counsellors and psychologists and sometimes you will have to sit the child down and try to go into his or her mind to help the child develop these skills, especially their confidence," she said.

Summit

The summit, dubbed the skills impact summit was to teach and encourage students to develop their skills and potentials to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

Held under the auspices of the 2022 National Best Teacher, the summit also saw the awarding of some teachers at His Majesty SHS for their hard work and dedication towards their job.

Ms Larbi said the award was to encourage the teachers and make them aware that their efforts were being recognised.

She added that the award was to also motivate other teachers to work hard to impact the lives of the students they teach.

Ms Larbi encouraged leaders in the communities and the society at large to recognise the efforts of teachers to encourage them to do more.

Harness

The Director of His Majesty SHS, Prof. Evans Opoku Gyimah, reiterated that apart from academic work, his school believed that it was important to harness the soft skills of the students so they could be the best wherever they found themselves.

He also urged students to take their destinies into their own hands and work towards achieving them.
