International School Meals Day (ISMD) aims to raise awareness of good nutrition for children regardless of their circumstances. On Thursday March 9, Woenam Foundation and United Way Ghana served a platter of education about the importance of nutrition to the growth and development of children and fortified yoghurt from Fanmilk Ghana Limited.
The celebration of ISMD2023 was held with children from Ayebeng Memorial A&B Primary School. Children from classes one to six made raucous noises as their teams answered questions on nutrition with aplomb during the specially organized inter-class quiz. Speaking after the quiz, Yenam Ocloo, an 11 year old grade 6 student of Eden.
children that, ISMD was a special event because the idea was conceived by children for children. He further encouraged them to have conversations about good nutrition since “making the right food choices was essential to living a healthy life.” He concluded by thanking United Way Ghana, Fanmilk Ghana, Dealzmarket Ghana and all the volunteers for helping Woenam Foundation make the event a success. Woenam Foundation was founded in 2023 by Yenam and his sister Yewoe Ocloo to help achieve “goal 2” of the SGD’s (ending global hunger by 2030) and to help children with learning disabilities.
In his remarks, the headmaster of the school, Mr Solomon Adovor admonished the children to ensure that the knowledge acquired will reside in a sound healthy body by adopting healthy lifestyles. All participants in the quiz were awarded with books whiles the entire school was served FanMaxx yoghurt to go with their meals. The ISMD2023 celebration achieved more than its objective of starting a conversation about nutrition and childhood hunger, it started a movement that is bound to transform the school and the Community.
