The facility, which has been named as Lordina Mahama Maternity and children’s ward, has babies’ cot, neonatal care unit, incubators, phototherapy unit, delivery room, a kangaroo mother and child care centre and recovery ward.

Others were theatre and accessories, a sterilisation room, nurses work station, doctors consultancy room and receptionist’s office.

The construction of the facility marked the celebration of the 30th marriage anniversary of the former President, John Dramani Mahama, and the wife, Lordina Mahama.

At a durbar to hand over the facility to the chiefs and people of Bole, the former President said the construction of the facility was in collaboration with Lordina Foundation, and meant to enhance quality healthcare delivery in Bole District.

He described the facility as “a gift to the children and mothers of Bole and its surrounding communities”.

Mr Mahama added that the construction of the maternity and children’s ward in his hometown was to give back to his own people.

“I am a native of Bole hence the need for me to support my people with what they deserve,” he emphasised.

He said 30 years of marriage was a journey and was good they gave back to the society.

Mr Mahama added that they could have done something else for the people, but they felt that giving them a health facility would serve them better than any other thing.

He said expanding the Bole government hospital was necessary because population in the area was on increasing day-by-day.

The Former President said the well-being of every child depended on the good health of their mothers, hence the need for mothers to have good health and a quality facility to attend for their health care.

He said the facility would also go a long way to provide comfortable environment for the nurses and the workers, and appealed to the management of the hospital to ensure that they take good care of the facility.

The Bolewura, Sarfo Kutuge Feso, applauded former President Mahama and the wife for putting up such a facility for the people of Bole and its neighbouring communities in Bole traditional area.

He said the construction of the children and maternity wards in the Bole government hospital had come at the right time, and this he said would go a long way to ease the burden on women during childbirth in the hospital.

The chief assured the former President and the wife thathe would liaise with the management of the hospital to keep the facility in good shape
