The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is building a robust and resilient e-system to provide diverse online platforms to enhance research, teaching, learning and administrative work.
Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor, said the move was in line with the digital vision of the University, and formed part of the e-strategies being rolled for the sustainable development of the institution.
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has become a key enabler for the core business of every institution, including universities, the Vice-Chancellor observed, saying the KNUST had stepped up efforts to play a more active role in the fourth industrial revolution.
Prof. Mrs. Dickson was launching the ‘KNUST Apps’, at a ceremony in Kumasi.
In all, a total of seven apps, developed by the University Information Technology Services (UITS), were launched, comprising the KNUST Academic Info Manager (AIM), Online Transcript System, Promotion Application System, Online Timetable Management System, Feedback App, TekScholar and TranSwift.
On the usage and relevance of the apps, Prof. Mrs. Dickson explained that the AIM App was to bring the functions of the online student portal to mobile devices, while the Online Transcript System had been developed to assist the alumni to access the online transcript portal.
The Promotion Application System, she said, was an online promotion application and processing system that provides an easy application process from start to finish for all KNUST staff, with the TranSwift App developed to facilitate easy request of transcripts online.
Prof. Mrs. Dickson indicated that the Feedback App had been developed to gather suggestions for consideration by management, and the TekScholar App being an online platform that provides information about research publications, while the Timetable Management System aimed at scheduling and generating lecture timetable.
She lauded the UITS for the good job done and advised the university community to take advantage of the apps in doing business.
Mr. Emmanuel N.O. Afful, Director of the UITS, said his outfit would continue to support the university with innovative platforms to facilitate academic and administrative work.
