He said it was important for every individual in the region to take responsibility and work together to prevent and fight crime.

“Some of the hotels and hostels do not have qualified security guards and many of the available ones are old men who end up sleeping at post; it is, therefore, your responsibility to provide strong and qualified security guards at your vicinity to ensure the safety of members”, he said.

DCOP Ndekugri said this at a stakeholder’s engagement meeting with owners and managers of hotels and hostels in the region on Monday at Wa.

He said security was a shared responsibility and emphasised the need for hotel owners to ensure that their people were well protected

He suggested again that close circuit television (CCT) cameras should be installed on major corridors of hotels and hostels and monitored by experts at the reception.

The commander advised them to engage qualified people to monitor the installed security cameras, adding that the arrangement should be done professionally to ensure that they do not open up their facilities to miscreants.

He urged the hotel owners to report suspicious behaviour of strangers in their facilities to the police for appropriate action to be taken.

DCOP Ndekugri advised the public to help fish out suspicious characters and report them to appropriate quarters such as the security.

One of the participants, Mohammed Sadick, on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to the Regional Police Command for organising the meeting and prayed for more of such interactions on regular basis to help reduce crimes in the region.
