The U.S. Mission recognizes the positive steps that the Moroccan government took to provide free and fair elections, recognized by the international community.

The 2021 report continues to note significant concerns regarding limits to freedom of speech and assembly in Morocco.

The United States is elevating human rights in relationships with all our government partners globally and increasing our engagement with civil society groups.

The U.S. Mission in Morocco looks forward to the continued cooperation of the Government of Morocco and civil society partners in addressing these and other critical human rights issues.

Morocco is a close partner of the United States with which we regularly engage on a variety of issues, including how we can work together to advance King Mohammed VI’s reform agenda on subjects ranging from freedom of expression and association, to criminal justice reforms, to women’s rights.

The annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices – the Human Rights Reports – cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreements.

The U.S. Department of State submits reports on all United Nations member states to the U.S. Congress in accordance with the Foreign Assistance Ace of 1961 and the Trade Act of 1974. The publication of this annual report reflects U.S. interest in, and support for, the advancement of human rights around the world.
