Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Sugandh Rajaram has promised to provide Ghana with the needed telecommunication and ICT support for national development.
Speaking at an Indian-Ghana buyer-seller meeting, H.E Rajaram recounted that “Indian telecommunication (telecom) resource has been entrenched in the early years of national development efforts in Ghana”. According to him, Ghana has shown a huge trust for Indian telecom operations and activities. He said, that this technology partnership will continue to exist and produce the desired results.
Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are not only pervasive in life’s activities, but they also form the backbone of every economy. ICTs are crucial in developing all aspects of a country’s economy including education, health, agriculture, finance, and transportation.
The High Commissioner also noted that there are other aspects of the partnership aside supplying ICTs to the Ghanaian market. Key amongst them is “value addition”. This, he said, was a shared vision of the Ghanaian Government to ensure that local technology suppliers boost the quality of products and services to the Ghanaian people.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) aims at boosting intra-African trade by facilitating the movement of goods and services. Ultimately, the AFCFTA will boost Africa’s trading position in the global market. H.E Rajaram envisions the AFCFTA will spur the smooth sailing of telecom businesses. He charged Ghanaian telecom providers to join hands with Indian partners and tap into this opportunity.
