Most of the evacuees are students who were caught up in the tensions between Ukraine and Russia.

Countries such as Hungary and Romania have already extended an offer to students whose academic life has been truncated by the War.

Speaking to Citi News, a Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, indicated that the government has already engaged the Deans of the various medical schools in the country on the possibility of absorbing the evacuees.

“We are looking at that. The conversation has started on a low-key. We hope to activate it and activate it next week. Already, there have been discussions with the deans of the medical schools. The initial response has been very positive.”

“Next week, when we scale it up, there will be a proper stakeholder meeting to look at what can be done for the students. We don’t want to jump the gun,” Mr. Ampratwum-Sarpong said.

The National Union of Ghana Students in Ukraine said it has 945 Ghanaian students registered with it.
