From level 100, that is, the first year in the University, parents of each student would, every month, contribute at least Ghc25 to an account, in the name of their wards, for the next 4 years, and during their national service.
This will be a minimum category. There would be others up to Ghc200 a month, while some would contribute per quarter - depending on income levels.
The goal is for the student to have a small amount at the time of graduation to start a digital business.
People complain a lot that there are no jobs or jobs are hard, but jobs are also hard because preparations to get work are started after school, not when the person is still in school.
There are e-commerce possibilities via phone and others via the web, so it is not impossible to start small, with digital.
The total amount may seem minute, but the psychological effect of putting the mind towards something, is better than lying on the couch at home after graduation.
There is also the opportunity to move from a major town, to a remote community and seek out opportunities.
People can also team up together to start something in a small way and move forward, in any of the promising sectors in Ghana.
This will be called graduation insurance, a product that can ensure possible new direction for graduates towards self-started productivity.
Health insurance is broad in a narrow way. An area of opportunity is retail pharmacy. They are everywhere. They are closer to communities with the ability to provide preventive health.
If pharmacy insurance could be created to guarantee availability of certain medications, according to the needs of the family per quarter, it would become an excellent way for cheaper insurance and avoidance of dire situations that require clinics.
Trucks on highways in Ghana need to have CCTV on their dashboards, so that some form of light or signal can be provided for those behind, in order to overtake safely.
This CCTV project could be realised through a product which could be named as 'Overtaking Insurance', and priced at Ghc1 per 50km on any journey on the highway. Trucks would be fitted with the mini-CCTVs.
The insurance could also be used to provide major safety lights, videos and robots on the roads to minimize risks of accidents and shorten response time if anything goes wrong.
There are new opportunities in the insurance industry for corporations in Ghana. It is to find, build, earn, expand and make the future better than before.
